As humanoid robots move from demos to mass production, OEMs are re-examining every component. Harnesses are easy to underestimate yet decisive for reliability and assembly speed.
1. More harness content than expected
A humanoid has 30-40+ degrees of freedom, each joint carrying power, encoder and temperature lines, plus body bus and head sensors — several times the branch count of an industrial arm in far tighter space.
2. Three technical barriers
First, longer flex life than industrial robots; second, lightweight fine-gauge high-flex wire that still carries current; third, millimeter-level branch routing with micro connectors.
3. Supply landscape: a shakeout is underway
OEMs prefer a few deeply-bound suppliers with simultaneous engineering, week-level sampling and flex/thermal validation. Pure contract shops are being squeezed out; capable custom factories face structural upside.
